So you don't have to be a yogi to follow this step, though it somehow seems appropriate, right?
The first step towards finding bliss is choosing a mantra!
Okay, I know this first step is a bit on the corny side, but it seriously works. Knowing the intention you are setting forth in the New Year is a very important step towards realizing the goals you have established for yourself. It offers you a chance to pinpoint where your strength for accomplishment is drawing from, which will aid you in reaching your objectives. Last year, the My Artistic Bliss mantra was “I have limitless potential and the capacity for greatness”. A sentiment I still stand by because of its truth and the power it reminds us that we innately possess. This mantra still stands as an crucial belief system for reaching your goals, and I’ll reiterate about this in a bit. The 2014 My Artistic Bliss mantra is “my choices have power!”
Lets dig a little deeper into these mantras though, shall we?
‘I Have Limitless Potential and the Capacity for Greatness’:
This is a key affirmation that everyone needs to remember, not just at the beginning of a new year, but all year long and throughout life. Take this on for a moment if it is not already a part of your belief system: you have created the life you are currently living.
Sit in this truth for a moment.
The experiences of your life were created by you… your perceptions, your beliefs, your actions or inactions, all have a causation effect that have brought you to where you are today. This statement is simply truth and should empower you. While things may happen in your life that are out of your control, how you react to them, what you learn from them, and how you move forward after they occur, are solely up to you.
Take a moment to think about your life. Think about where you are, where you’ve been, who you’ve met over the years, who is in your life at this very moment, and who you are to yourself. Think about the decisions you have made over the course of your life, the chances you did and didn’t take, and the words you did or didn’t say. Think about your relationships, your jobs, your goals, your happiness, your depressions, and your fears. Think about what has and is dictating your life and the choices you make. Think about all the times you’ve said “yes” or “no” to one thing or another, and why you did so. All these things are elements of your life that were created by you. Your choices continually create your existence; and in this you have the power to create for yourself the future and life you wish to live.
Whether or not, you are happy with the current condition of your life, owning up to your part in your life grants you the power to realize that; ‘if I’ve brought myself this far, not fully understanding that it was me all the long that had the power to do so… where could I take myself, now knowing that I in fact do have that power?’
‘My Choices Have Power’:
This powerful statement says a lot about the role that we not only have had in our past, but the role we can have in our future. You’ve chosen your partner, your job, your friends, what you did with today or yesterday, or are going to do with tomorrow. You’ve chosen what you are going to eat or not eat, and how you’ve spent your free time. You’ve chosen how you act or react to a situation. The list literally goes on forever the choices you have made, and each of these choices has brought you to where you are today.
This power, however, goes both ways. So also remember that you have the same power to stifle the progression of your life with pessimism, inaction and not learning from the lessons your life has been trying to teach you since birth. Every time you decide you have limitations, you are in fact creating limitations for yourself. We’ve all heard the stories about everyday people beating adversity to reach great heights for themselves. Whether it was breaking through poverty, illness, abuse, or disability, there are people out there who have made it through the thick of things to rise to the top. It is not by luck that these people were able to do this either, but because they realized that they possessed the power to break free from circumstance and make the choices necessary to beat the odds. You don't have to be down and out to make life changing choices either, it's just about living in the realization that people in far worse off situations were able to do it and so can you.
Sadly, some people remain cynical of this power and doubt the potential their life truly has and their ability to achieve greatness. For some reason cynicism has become an acceptable state of being. However, whether or not you believe in the power of you choices, this truth exists free from your belief in it. Just as the sun will rise and set without your permission, so will your choices continue to affect your life whether or not you take ownership of them. So, what does cynicism really grant you? What do you gain from victimizing yourself and being skeptical of your ability to control your own destiny, or even excel in life? And why is it easier to believe that you are limited by circumstance, than to believe that you aren’t? Believing in yourself and your ability to achieve is what creating a mantra for yourself it all about. It's about empowering yourself with truth.
This year I challenge you to take on this belief system: “I have limitless potential and the capacity for greatness” and “my choices have power.” Take back the power that is rightfully yours and embrace your ability to be great! What do you have to lose from shedding your self-doubt and taking on self-empowerment?
