Let's relive our childhood for a moment!
I don't think I can stress enough how much I love this time of year. The cooling of the air, shortening of the days, costumes and candy, horror movies and fall festivities! It takes me back to a nostalgic time of fun and innocence that I've chosen to never grow out of.
Remember what Halloween was like when you were a kid? Decorating the house with fake spiderwebs and ghoulish creatures? Going to haunted houses with your family and friends? Playing in fallen leaves? Picking out that perfectly spooky costume? Gobbling down sweet treats after a night of trick-or-treating? Listening to ghostly tales by flashlight, and of course carving pumpkins into jack-o-lanterns. It's the only time of year when we can play dress up and take it out onto the streets. A time when we relish in the creepy and bizarre, and let our inhibitions go.
So I, being the child-at-heart that I am, take great pleasure in extending my childhood into my adulthood each year by fully participating in the festivities of the season. Decorations, costumes, haunted houses, parties, delicious eats, and one of the most Halloween activities you can participate in... pumpkin carving!
In my opinion there's nothing more freeing than getting your hands dirty and pumpkin carving is the perfect excuse to do just that. There's something almost magical about the sensation of wet pumpkin pulp on your hands. It transports me to yesteryear and brings up fond memories of a happy childhood.
This year I decided to try my hand at something a little more complex than the traditional triangle eyes and toothy grin by carving the profile of a witch into the pumpkin I picked straight from the pumpkin patch. Check out the slideshow below to see how I turned my pumpkin into a classic Halloween witch.
How did your jack-o-lantern turn out this year?
